All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) :
The MHRD got re-examined the syllabus thru A.I.C.T.E. for the Mechanical Engineering Degree & Diploma conducted by the I.Mech.E (India) .
High Level Committee for Recognition of Technical Qualifications under Deptt. Of Education :
- The MHRD reviewed the I.Mech.E(India)’s Infrastructure ,Training Facilities , examination procedure , rules ,regulations , Eligibility cretria , Examiners , Method of Examination , Office Bearers -Teaching & Non-Teaching etc.. thru a High Level Committee under Deptt. Of Education.
- The MHRD, Govt. of India on the recommendations of the A.I.C.T.E. and the High Level Committee had accorded recognition for the A.M.I.Mech.E (I) & T.Eng. as per NEW SYLLABUS (recommended by the A.I.C.T.E. ) vide their letter No.-F.23-2/2001 Dt. 24th Nov. 2006.
- The MHRD, GOI has allowed the students of I.Mech.E(I) registered prior to 10.06.2002 to complete their Mechanical Engineering Degree & Diploma as per old syllabus only upto Dec.’06 and further recognized the Degree and Diploma as per old syllabus also for Central Govt. Jobs.
Union Public Service Commission (U.P.S.C.) :
These examinations are recognized by the U.P.S.C. for admission to Engineering Service Examination , IAS, IFS , CDSE etc..
The AICTE gives accreditation to only to the academic institutions that offer engineering and management degrees in India. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India) is a professional institution which qualifies its members based on their professional experience. It also offers a professional qualification AMIME (Associate Member of Institution of Mechanical Engineers) which is equivalent to an engineering degree and is accepted my the Government of India.
IME is not an university but its a professional institution which lies under the category API(Autonomous Professional Institutions).
The Candidate/Member will be eligible to apply for government jobs.

- For Technician Engineering Examination (Part 1 & Part lI)
- A pass in 10th examination with Maths & Science from recognized Board with minimum 1 year of work experience in relevant field.
- {Part I or T.Eng. is exempted (or the candidates who have passed 12th (10+2) with PCM from recognized Board.)
- Minimum Duration – 1 year for part 1 and 1.5 years for Part II
For Associate Membership Examination - (Section A& Section B)
- A pass in 3yrs. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from recognized technical education board or equivalent with minimum 1 year of work experience in relevant field.
- {Section A or AMIME (I) is exempted for the candidates who have passed B.E/B.Tech. in other than Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or pass in Section A of AMIE (India) after Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.)
- Minimum Duration- 1 year for Section A and 1.5 years for Section B
